Quoted and traded in pairs, currency pairs represent the most popular traded asset class on our platform. Currency pairs include EURUSD, GBPUSD, USDJPY and many others. When trading a currency pair, you buy one currency while simultaneously selling the other. For instance, when trading USDJPY, USD is the base currency while JPY is the quote currency. When buying USDJPY, you are buying USD while simultaneously selling JPY; when selling USDJPY, you are selling USD while simultaneously buying JPY. At OceanTrade, you can trade over 300 major, minor and exotic currency pairs.
Majors There are 8 major currencies: USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, CHF, CAD, NZD and AUD which make up the 7 major currency pairs: EURUSD, GBPUSD, USDJPY, USDCAD, USDCHF, AUDUSD and NZDUSD. Note that all the majors have USD as either the base or quote currency. Majors are the most traded pairs in the world, with high volume and high liquidity at all times.
Minors Also known as crosses, Minors are made up of Major currencies that do not include the US dollar. They include AUDCAD, EURJPY, GBPCHF and AUDNZD.
Exotics Exotics are currency pairs made up of a major currency and the currency of an emerging nation such as South Africa, Norway, Singapore and Turkey. Exotics are usually illiquid and characterized by wide spreads and choppy price fluctuations. Exotics include USDZAR, GBPSGD, USDTRY and USDMXN.
Indices represent a benchmark value of a basket of stocks. Each index is based on a weighted statistical average of the performance of a select group of stocks.
Indices help investors to easily gain exposure to a market, industry or even geographical region. Some of the most common global indices include the S&P 500, DAX 30 and FTSE 100. Because of the number of stocks that make up an individual index, indices usually have smooth price action that allows investors to trade them with ease.
Trade Major Indices 24 hours a day
The high liquidity and constant volatility of indices make it an attractive investment option for CFD traders. Here is why:
Easy Analysis: When analyzing indices, investors can perform in-depth research on individual companies of the constituent stocks, but often basic fundamental analysis gives a clear indication whether to take a bullish or bearish position on the overall market.
Better Prices: Indices are less prone to price shocks, slippages or even gaps due to the amount of activity taking place on individual stocks making up a particular index. This means that prices are more transparent at all times.
News Coverage: Major indices are covered widely by news and media companies and respectable analysts because of their huge relevance to the broader economy compared to individual stocks.

Commodities are an essential aspect of daily human life. They were the foundation of global trade since the early days of human civilization. Initially, commodities were exchanged with other commodities perceived to be of similar value. But, over time Gold and Silver became the preferred form of currency. Gold eventually became the centre of world commerce and evolved to be one of the most widely traded commodities globally.
There are numerous types of commodities that are now traded throughout the world. The major ones include Agricultural Products such as Cotton, Soybeans and pork Bellies; Energies such as Coal, Crude Oil and Natural Gas; Precious Metals such as Gold, Silver and Platinum.
Over the years, the might of empires was dependent on their ability to create and manage trade routes to enhance the exchange of commodities. Even in the early days, commodity trading was not the reserve of producers and buyers; there were speculators as well who would seek to take advantage of price fluctuations throughout seasons.
In contemporary history, commodities have largely been traded in the futures market via commodity exchanges. A futures contract is an agreement to buy or sell a specific commodity in a specified quantity at a specified date in the ‘future’. Actual commercial and institutional commodity users, as well as speculators, are the primary participants in the futures market. For speculators, the futures market provides a great platform to perform commodity plays. As a leveraged market, investors can also amplify their profits in futures, and they can also make money in both rising and falling markets.
At OceanTrade, commodities are available as CFD products where investors can also enjoy leveraged trading as well as going long or short. And, unlike the futures market, commodity CFDs are not traded in centralized exchanges and there are neither minimum contract amounts, nor contract expiry dates.
Stocks (shares) are units of ownership of a company. The main types of stocks are common and preferred. Common shareholders have voting rights, but preferred shareholders do not; however, preferred shareholders get priority during dividend payouts and liquidation. While these are the two major types, some companies may further classify shares in classes (such as Class A, B, etc) with different voting rights. Stocks have been traded for a long time in the traditional manner. At OceanTrade, stock CFDs are available for trading with leverage, short selling, no middlemen, no commissions, 24-hours a day with instant execution.
Trading stocks CFDs offers a great opportunity for traders to earn returns based on the performance of hundreds of well-known companies. The major benefit of these CFDs is that investors do not need to purchase the physical stocks, which can often be out of reach of retail traders but still benefit from the prices movements. Some of the most popular stocks you can trade at OceanTrade include Google, Microsoft, Netflix and hundreds more.
